The one thing Cape Cod locals do not want outsiders to know is how awesome it is to spend time on Cape Cod during the fall season. The weather is still warm, the crowds have died down, and the area’s beautiful fall foliage is in full effect – it’s a great time to be on the Cape!

Bikini season might be over but there is still plenty to do with fun and exciting events going on all across the peninsula. Here is just a short list of some of our favorite fall events and activities:


yarmouth 1. Yarmouth Seaside Festival, Yarmouth
This annual festival is a Columbus Day weekend tradition for many in the area. It’s a three-day extravaganza with tons of fun activities for the whole family including a craft fair, kids rides and games, a one-of-a-kind haunted maze, 5K road race, canoe and kayak race, sand-sculpting contest, two parades, and a big fireworks display at Seagull Beach.

2. Halloween Kids Fest, Falmouth

In addition to the best pumpkin picking on Cape Cod, Tony Andrew’s Farm (394 Old Meetinghouse Road, East Falmouth) will be hosting “Halloween Kid’s Fest”.  The event will feature a host of fun-filled family activities, including Tractor Rides, the Jack-O-Lantern Obstacle Course, and a not-too-scary hike through the Haunted Forest. ”Halloween Kid’s Fest” will be held from 11 am to 3 pm on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the month of October, beginning October 11 (also open Monday, October 13, Columbus Day).

Wellfleet Oyster Fest 3. Wellfleet OysterFest, Wellfleet
Seafood lovers take notice! The 14th annual Wellfleet OysterFest will take place Saturday and Sunday, October 18 & 19, 2014. This two-day family festival brings together locals and visitors alike gathering to celebrate the town’s famous famous oysters, clams and shellfishing traditions. There is something for everyone, including local cuisine, arts and crafts, educational programs, cooking demonstrations, children’s activities, walking tours, live music, a road race, and you sure won’t want to miss the annual Oyster Shuck-Off competition!Tickets to the event are $5/one day and $8/two day pass. Children under $12 are free!Events will be held all around the Town Center and there will be parking at Wellfleet Elementary School on Lawrence Rd., Cove Corner on Route 6 and the Town Marina.

4. Mashpee Oktoberfest
Join the town of Mashpee as they host their annual Oktoberfest on October 11, 2014.  The day begins with 10K road race at 10 a.m. then the Mashpee Town Green turns into a scene of a fall celebration with live entertainment, food, a beer garden, and children’s activities like pumpkin decorating and face painting.

Tobey Farm
5. Scary Hayride at Tobey Farm, Dennis

Every weekend for the month of October you can jump on a scary hayride at Tobey Farm in Dennis (352 Route 6A). An annual tradition for many families in the area, the farm is also a great spot to pick up a Halloween pumpkin and some apples.

Hayrides are run from 6-8 p.m, Fridays through Sundays, through the end of October.

arts cape cod 6. Fall for the Arts
Fall for the Arts is a family-friendly month long celebration that showcases local art and culture.  This will be the 7th annual Fall for the Arts festival and it will run from October 3 – November 1st with events all across Cape Cod and the Islands. Events include: live performances by local musicians; open houses at theaters, museums, and historical sites; readings and lectures; art activities for children; guided art and heritage walks; plein air painters; special art exhibits; and much more!

halloween provincetown 7. Halloween in Provincetown, Provincetown
Provincetown is always up for a good party and Halloween is not the exception. A great place to spend Halloween, there are plenty of festive activities planned for Friday and Saturday around town and even if you just decide to just stroll around you’re sure to bump into a few characters out and about having a good time.

Cape Cod Marathon
8. Cape Cod Marathon, FalmouthOne of the “Ten Most Scenic” marathons in the world, this 26.1 mile race begins the beautiful Village Green in Falmouth, loops along the shoreline through farmlands and cranberry bogs, and past the Nobska Light. Even if you are not a runner you’ll want to get out and join the crowds as they cheer on the runners as they pass by on October 26th.

wine fest 9. Martha’s Vineyard Food and Wine Festival, Edgartown
If you’re thinking about taking a trip to the Island, make sure you add Martha’s Vineyard Food & Wine Festival in Edgartown to your itinerary.  Now in it’s 7th year, the festival is a world-class wine and culinary extravaganza featuring wine tasting seminars, premium wines, cooking demonstrations by nationally recognized award-winning chefs and wine personalities, and culinary dinners.

cranberryfest 10. Milestone Cranberry Festival, Nantucket
Join the Nantucket Conservation Foundation at Milestone Cranberry Bog as they celebrate the 12th Annual Cranberry Festival on Saturday, October 11, 2014.  You can watch the berries being harvested, learn about the history of cranberry farming on Nantucket, participate in fun family activities or just take in the scene.
